Mayr-Melnhof Karton opens new sales agency in China

Mayr-Melnhof Karton, the word-wide supplier of cartonboard based in Austria, set up two new selling agencies in China at the beginning of this year. With the two new locations in Shanghai and Guangzhou, Mayr-Melnhof Karton is continuing its strategy of internationalisation.

The new branch offices have been set up with the intention of intensifying contacts to existing customers and developing new market potentials in China and Hong Kong. “The enormous economic growth in the region and the increased consumer demand involving also a greater demand for cartonboard were major reasons for this strategic step”, explains Franz Rappold, member of the management board at Mayr-Melnhof Karton. “Our customers in China and Hong Kong now have the opportunity of transacting business with Mayr-Melnhof Karton directly instead of having to go through exporters or trade partners”, Rappold points out. Customers benefit in particular from fast and competent local sales and technical service.

The sales and technology team headed by Mr. Arnoud Snelleman is made up entirely of local staff who have been prepared for their new task on practical training courses held in Austria. The office in Guangzhou in the Southern province of Guang Dong has been operating since January 1st, 2004, and deals predominately with existing customers in the South of China. On February 1st, 2004, the new location in Shanghai was inaugurated. Its focus of attention is on Eastern and Northern China.
