EMAS

In order to better inform the public about environmental achievements, in 1996 Mayr-Melnhof Karton voluntarily participated in the EC Eco-Management and Audit Scheme Regulation.

The „Eco-Management and Audit Scheme" (EMAS) is a European Union regulation and constitutes a community system for environmental management and the environmental operation audit.

The objective of the EMAS Regulation from 1993 is the continuous improvement of internal environmental performance. EMAS is directed specifically at the industrial sector with the objective of promoting environmentally-conscious behaviour.

The Frohnleiten and Hirschwang mills already meet the high requirements of EMAS validation. Together with the ISO 14001 certification, EMAS constitutes the basis for the continuous securing of an environmental management system for the Mayr-Melnhof cartonboard division.
