EMAS

In order to better inform the public about the environmental achievements Mayr-Melnhof Karton in 1996 voluntarily participated in the EC- Eco-Management and Audit Scheme Regulation.

The „Eco-Management and Audit Scheme" (EMAS) is a regulation of the European Union and constitutes a community system for environmental management and the environmental operation audit.

The objective of the EMAS Regulation from 1993 is the continuous improvement of the internal environmental performance. EMAS is particularly directed towards the industry with the objective of promoting environmentally conscious behaviour.

The Frohnleiten and Hirschwang plants already meet the high requirements of EMAS validation.

Together with the ISO 14001 certification EMAS constitutes the basis for the continuous securing of an environmental management system of the Mayr-Melnhof cartonboard division.
